bicycle sidecar project - phase 1!

With the baby around the corner and an almost 4 year old to take into account I realized it is time for me to finally create the sidecar for my bike that I have been dreaming of! I have been sketching up some plans and I am lucky enough to have a lot of resources available, primarily my dad who can build pretty much anything so I have high hopes that this project will turn out well.

Phase One consisted of us building the basic frame structure of the sidecar base and getting the stock cut for the sides.

We are riveting all attachment points to reinforce the welds that are still to come. We chose to construct the sidecar out of aluminum because it is light weight but I know aluminum welding can be more fragile than steel so I hope the rivets take care of any problems with that.

I still need to research further on ideas for the actual connections to my bike frame. Ideally the sidecar would be detachable and slightly adjustable to allow it to be used on several different frames.
If anyone has great ideas or designs please send them my way!

Looking forward to phase two!
